Persons Who Rock (musically)
The Bradburys My former bandmates from the Steppingstones carry on the power-pop tradition with this great quartet. I even sat in with them last Christmas, because I'm cool.
Joe Abba A great drummer and percussionist, Joe played on some of the tracks on my CD Living It Down, and he was a member of the live band I put together to promote the CD. He kicks ass!
Cathy Cervenka Pat Benatar, Classic Album Nite, Bitch (it's a show of all women singers, I'm not namecalling) all come from Cathyland!
Big Star A lot of the bands that I like claimed them as an influence, and some bands I thought I liked turned out to be clones of these guys. And yes, the theme from That 70's Show is based on one of their tunes.
Material Issue I didn't really know these guys, but my band, The Steppingstones, always considered them as our big brother band. They were one of the first indy bands of our generation to get signed out of Chicago and they did power pop the way it was meant to be played. Our band recorded at the same studio and with the same producer, Jeff Murphy, that they did their first two albums with.
Cheap Trick Come on, have you forgotten? Rockford, Illinois, baby! Saw them live a couple of times and, all kidding and kitsch aside, they kick ass.
Foo Fighters What can I say, I like 'em.
